Reina, an eighth-grade Washington Virtual Academies (WAVA) student, is gaining national recognition for her exceptional musical talent. She was named a national finalist in the K12 Talent Showdown in the Musical Performance category, placing her among the top young performers in the country. 

After competing against hundreds of students nationwide, Reina was one of just 26 total finalists selected to perform live in front of a panel of judges and a national audience. 

A Competitive Path to the Finals 

The K12 Talent Showdown brings together standout student performers from across the United States. Finalists advance through a rigorous virtual audition process before moving to the final stage. 

This year’s finalists participated in virtual rehearsals leading up to the live event on June 8, 2026. Judges selected top winners in each category and grade level, with each first-place winner receiving a $500 cash prize. A total of 12 winners were named across the competition. 

In addition to judged categories, audiences across the country had the opportunity to participate in real-time voting during the livestreams. Four students earned the People’s Choice distinction, each receiving a $250 cash prize. 

A Passion That Started Early 

Reina’s journey in music began at a young age, even though she did not come from a musical family. She discovered her passion for the violin at just four years old and quickly dedicated herself to developing her skills. 

By age seven, she joined the Coleman Studio, where her growth as both a musician and performer accelerated. Over the years, she has participated in performances and competitions across the country, building an impressive resume that includes playing at renowned venues such as Benaroya Hall and Carnegie Hall at 11 years old. 

Balancing Academics and Art Through Online Learning 

Today, Reina continues to refine her craft while balancing her academic responsibilities. She studies under Professor Simon James at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and is enrolled at WAVA. 

Online learning has played a key role in helping her manage both her education and her demanding practice schedule. The structure allows her to stay on track academically while dedicating the time needed to pursue excellence in music. 

Outside of violin, Reina enjoys creative expression through art and values time spent with her family and her Boston Terrier. 

Looking Ahead to the National Stage 

As Reina prepares for the K12 Talent Showdown finals, her journey reflects years of dedication, discipline, and passion for her craft. Her upcoming performance represents not only a personal milestone but also an opportunity to share her talent with a national audience. 

With the competition approaching, Reina stands as a strong example of how commitment and the right learning environment can support students in reaching extraordinary goals.
